Update: Tennessee Coaching Search: Is it Dooley?

1/15-11:50am According to the Daily Advertiser:

Dooley, who has been the coach at Tech for three seasons, canceled end-of-the-season player meetings with his players on Wednesday and left Ruston. He met with Tennessee officials on Wednesday and Thursday.

11:38am The SportsAnimal’s Jimmy Hyams is reporting that Derek Dooley will be Tennessee’s next head coach!!

10:30am According to Tom Dienhart, whoever the new coach is they  must keep some of Kiffin’s old staff because of contract lengths and money.

9:00am – David Cutcliffe is staying at Duke. Here is the statement he released via ESPN.com:

“After much thought and consideration, Karen and I reached the decision that Duke is the place for our family. We have the best coaching staff in the country, and are convinced that we will continue to build a successful football program that both the Duke and Durham communities will be proud of.”

Let’s look at who is left:

Muschamp, Calhoun, Cutcliffe, Dooley, Kippy, Golden, Edsall, Whittingham, Sumlin, and Lovie Smith?

It has also been stated that Syracuse coach Doug Marrone would “walk on hot coals” to take the Tennessee job.
